Week 6: Chapters 12 & 13

In Chapters 12 & 13, Amid worries about the results of Mike’s COVID testing, making ends meet and their near-empty pantry, the whole family is tense and distracted. When everyone (but the class bullies!) forgets his birthday, Aiden finally crumbles under the stress and disappointment—but a special new friend has Aiden thinking his luck may be changing.

The NBC Library Staff would like to invite students and teachers to join the Clements Quaran-Teen Club by viewing each webcast and then sharing their comments, reviews, thoughts, reactions, and illustrations to the newest chapters.   You can post your comment(s) below.  To prevent inappropriate messages and spam, you must include your First Initial, Last Name, & Grade Level along with your comment in order for it to be approved and published to the page.

Here are a few questions to consider from this week's webcast.  Feel free to include any additional comments or raise any additional questions that arose during the webcast.
  • What grade (A-F) would you give Chapters 12 & 13?  Why?
  • Have you personally been affected by COVID19 or known someone who has?  How was your experience the same/different as Aiden?
  • Who is the most shocking person that has ever wished you Happy Birthday?
  • Set the scene:  Aiden's Quaranteen Birthday, The Empty Pantry Family Dinners, what do you think they look like?  Help to illustrate Aiden's story.
If you would like to submit your illustration(s) from this week's chapters to be featured on the Clements Quaran-Teen Club page, e-mail them to Ms. Gilliam or Mrs. Bailey.  You can also submit your illustrations(s) to the Junior Library Guild team via Instagram @JrLibraryGuild or e-mail at jlgwebcast@gmail.com. Some pics might just make it on the next national webcast!
