Week 1: Meet the Author & Chapters 1-3

In the first 3 chapters, we meet Aiden Tyler and discover (alongside him) that COVID-19 is a thing! He experiences pandemonium at the toilet-paper-free grocery store. He goes through mixed feelings about school closures. And he admits to farting when he's nervous. Hear Rex read the first 3 chapters and engage with student viewers on ideas for plot twists, Aiden's age, and more!

The NBC Library Staff would like to invite students and teachers to join the Clements Quaran-Teen Club by viewing each webcast and then sharing their comments, reviews, thoughts, reactions, and illustrations to the newest chapters.   You can post your comment(s) below.  To prevent inappropriate messages and spam, you must include your First Initial, Last Name, & Grade Level along with your comment in order for it to be approved and published to the page.

Here are a few questions to consider from this week's webcast.  Feel free to include any additional comments or raise any additional questions that arose during the webcast.
  • What grade (A-F) would you give the first 3 chapters?  Why?
  • Do you plan on checking out the webcast next week?  Why or Why Not?
  • How have your experiences and feelings over the past few weeks been similar to or different from that of the characters in the story?
  • What color is Aiden’s hair? What does Sophia’s Coronavirus crown look like? Let’s have some fun illustrating Aiden’s story!
If you would like to submit your illustration(s) from this week's chapters to be featured on the Clements Quaran-Teen Club page, e-mail them to Ms. Gilliam or Mrs. Bailey.  You can also submit your illustrations(s) to the Junior Library Guild team via Instagram @JrLibraryGuild or e-mail at jlgwebcast@gmail.com. Some pics might just make it on the next national webcast!

Comments

  1. I found the author to be very engaging and entertaining. The storyline was interesting and offers a unique perspective on the events that are occurring in the world. Many of the thoughts and feelings that Aiden was experiencing were familiar and were certainly easy to relate to. I will definitely tune in next week to see what is happening with Aiden and his family.

  2. This is a great story for all ages! I especially love that the author, Rex Ogle, is asking students to illustrate as the story progresses.
